When should you choose personal interviews/focus groups as a data collection method?
Personal interviews/focus groups are ideal for gaining general insight into a target group’s views and opinions. This can be valuable, for instance, as a feasibility study for a quantitative survey. This method is used to analyse a group’s attitudes, values and behaviours. It doesn’t only determine what the group’s views are, but also the reasoning behind these views.
A focus group typically has 8 to 10 participants. To achieve good results, the group should be led by an experienced moderator following a pre-established discussion guide. This discussion guide should not be too detailed, in order to allow room for new, unexpected opinions. Focus groups are a qualitative method, which means that the results can never be quantified or seen as representative for an entire target group.
How do we assure the quality of our recruitment for personal interviews/focus groups?
Since 1999, we have been carrying out recruitment projects weekly for companies in a diverse range of sectors. This has given us solid experience and has led to an increasing demand for our recruitment services. We have our own department specialising in the recruitment of participants for personal interviews, focus groups, panels and other specific target groups. Every year we conduct about 75 projects where we recruit respondents for companies in a range of sectors.
We combine new recruitment methods with traditional telephone recruitment, which makes us a versatile partner for this type of project. In addition to recruitment, we offer advice on designing questionnaires and producing samples, and can also provide premises for the group meetings.
It can sometimes be difficult and costly to achieve the optimal nationwide distribution, and in such cases the physical meetings can be complemented with online focus groups or pre-booked telephone interviews.
Needless to say, if you need help finding a good moderator, we can arrange this for you.
